3 Matters Arising
There were no matters arising.
4 Report from the Chairman of the Executive Committee – Peter Wills
The Chairman welcomed attendees to the conference, the latest in the ASC’s series of one-day conferences at Ort House, which seems to be a popular location based on the usual good turnout. In the past, the ASC has also run two-day conferences, which have typically worked well at universities such as Bristol, Warwick, Edinburgh and Winchester. A two-day conference is being considered for 2021, though using universities has become increasingly difficult due to the heavy bookings they have for students.
The ASC has continued with the policy of seeking commercial sponsorship for events and this has been coordinated by Rebecca Cole. There are 6 sponsors for 2019, all of whom have a regular presence on the ASC website and via the marketing at all ASC conferences. Current sponsors are Askia, Data Expert, Gide, Merlinco, SmartVision and Snap Surveys. The Chairman thanked them for their continued support and mentioned that sponsorship opportunities for 2020 are available.
In the last 12 months there has been one new committee member – Bethan Blakely, who is chairing the conference today.
The Chairman thanked all the members of the committee, all of whom have very busy lives but still give their time freely to help with the running of the ASC. Behind the scenes, Christine Jenkins works tirelessly as the ASC administrator and ensures the very smooth operation of the committee.
5 Treasurer’s Report and Presentation of the Annual Accounts – Peter Wills (for Raz Khan)
The Chairman reported that the organisation is in good shape financially, with the sponsorship income providing a good balanced income for the year. There has been some additional spending on the new website this year.
